International science organizations sign agreement to provide hardware for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment
The DUNE collaboration, representing scientists from dozens of countries around the world, will contribute to the construction of detectors at two sites in the United States: one at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the host lab for DUNE, 40 miles west of Chicago, and the other at the Sanford Underground Research Laboratory (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota.

French and U.S. Science Agencies Take First Step to Collaborate on Electron-Ion Collider (EIC)
Representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science and the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) have signed a “Statement of Interest” to launch what both agencies hope will be a significant collaboration on the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC, being built in the U.S. at DOE’s Brookhaven National Laboratory in partnership with DOE’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab), will be a unique facility for exploring the building blocks of matter and the strongest force in nature. The agreement continues a long history of cooperation in scientific endeavors between the governments of France and the U.S. and is a first step toward forging stronger collaborative ties and future French contributions to the EIC.

Made in Germany: World’s thinnest pixel vertex detector installed in Japan
The Pixel Vertex Detector, which is about the size of a soda can and is the innermost sub-detector of the international experiment Belle II, has been successfully installed at its final location at the SuperKEKB electron–positron collider at the KEK laboratory in Japan. The device, which is designed to detect the signals of certain particle decays that could shed light on the origin of the observed imbalance of matter and antimatter in the universe, has ventured a long way over a long time from its production site in Munich to its final destination in Japan.
